Reuniting with dear friends Elsa and Renier, alongside their adorable 1-year-old son, Ruben, was an absolute joy! Four years ago, I had the honour of capturing their wedding day, filled with love and excitement for the future. Fast forward to today, and here we are, not only celebrating their new chapter as parents but also their beautiful new life in Stellenbosch, where they’ve made their home.
This shoot was a reunion that reminded me how special it is to document the different stages of life. Elsa and I have shared more than just these photoshoots. We attended the same antenatal class when she was expecting Ruben and I was expecting John, and we navigated the ups and downs of pregnancy together. Watching Ruben, now full of energy and curiosity, explore the world around him made the experience all the more heartwarming.
The locations in Stellenbosch were perfect. From the banks of the Eerste River to their beautiful home, it set the stage for photos that weren’t just about the present, but a celebration of their journey as a family. Ruben's joy and wonder added a layer of lightness and fun to the session, reminding me why I love what I do.
Looking back at how much has changed since their wedding day, from shared milestones to capturing their evolving story, I feel incredibly privileged to be part of their lives in this way. These images are more than just snapshots—they are a testament to the bond that continues to grow between friends and family, and the beauty of life's ever-changing seasons.
