A dream come true..
I recently hosted my very first wedding photography workshop at the new & upcoming venue, The Modern Heirloom.
It was an incredible experience and an absolute dream come true as teaching & inspiring others is a big passion of mine. And after 6 years in the industry and over 100 weddings under my belt, I felt it was time to start passing on the knowledge, lessons & secrets I learnt along the way.
12 ladies attended my two day workshop – some of them well established photographers and others complete newbies. I loved the fact that the group was a mixed bunch in terms of experience levels. But what I love the most is that it was a safe space for everyone to ask questions, learn from each other & share their goals & dreams. I met 12 amazing women and I will remember each and everyone one of them for a very long time. Watch out wedding industry, there is a new wave of talent on it’s way!
Day one we looked at the practical side of wedding photography – which lenses to use, how to direct & pose a bride, things to keep in mind on the wedding day, etc. It was also on day one when the attendees could practice their skills on the styled shoot that myself and Marize from She is Visual had put together. I chose a real couple for the shoot so that the attendees could practice directing people that aren’t models. Although Moira & Constant might just as well be! Marize created the most beautiful decor & table set-up opting for a minimal and earthy look and one that was not traditional “weddingy”, which I LOVED!
Day two was all about the business side of things as well as post production, social media, marketing, etc.
One of the highlights from the workshop was having my dear friend and fellow wedding photographer, Celeste Prince from Aglow Photography do a guest talk. Her talk was inspiring to say the least! She had us all in tears (literally), sharing her incredible journey from where she started to where she is now – a true inspiration. She also made an awesome behind the scenes video taking us a long on one of her shoots.
A HUGE thanks to Celeste!! Celeste you are one of my nearest and dearest in the industry and in my personal life, I can not thank you enough for sharing so openly and freely – you touched so many hearts that day!
Another huge thanks to my right hand and assistant, Ulla for being so amazing! This talented young lady also designed the name tags, welcome cards and a few other workshop stationary items.
All in all this workshop was an incredible opportunity for me to live out my dream and I want to thank each and every one who attended and who helped me achieve this wonderful goal.
My last thanks goes to The Modern Heirloom & Marize for the incredible hospitality, food, coffee and all around wonderful service. Working with such amazing people just put my workshop on another level.
Marize, jy is wonderlik, ek kan nie GENOEG vir jou dankie sé nie!
A few testimonials from the ladies that attended:
“I actually can’t stop thinking about everything I learnt at your workshop. I had the absolute BEST time! I cannot thank you enough for all you shared with us. I wish I had some constructive feedback for you, but honestly the whole experience for me was flawless! From the venue, to the food, to your presentation – everything was so well-planned and thought-out. It was evident that you put SO much into it, and for that, I appreciate everything I learnt from you that much more.Thank you for inspiring me. I hope to make you proud 🙂 “– Fiona
“Thank you for really going out of your way to make us feel individually cared for and thought of, like I mentioned to you the attention to detail made it that much more personal and enjoyable. I adored the venue and the food and presentation were really outstanding- so thank you.Thank you so very much for an absolutely incredible workshop. I really do not have any complaints about the workshop. I really feel I got my moneys worth, it was an experience in itself and I feel like I came away with inspiration, motivation and a whole range of useful information and helpful tips ( that I will surely use ) I was very happy to be equipped better in the business sense and grateful that you shared your knowledge with us so openly.– Kirsty
“Wow, honestly, I must say thank you! Everything was so carefully and graciously handled, since the gift package, the location, food, presentation. I wasn’t expecting to learn so much about Wedding Photography in just two days. You gave us so much of yourself, sharing all your experience and valuable tips. It was inspiring! Truly!
I believe as I’m absolutely new into Wedding Photography, every single content was precious. The presentation was organised in an objective way, explaining every single details of the entire process. The “break” in the second day, bringing Celeste as a guest and sharing her inspiring trajectory was amazing! The business part is intense, but you presented it in an amazing way, sharing examples and making all so clear.
Honestly, Jenni, you’re brilliant and I’d recommend to every photographer who is starting Wedding Photography! It was one of my first Photography Workshops; nonetheless it filled all my expectations, answered all my questions and helped a lot with all my insecurities.
I believe what made it an amazing Workshop is the fact that you weren’t afraid of sharing so much of your work. You’ve become a fabulous photographer and now you are sharing in a open heart what you’ve learnt and inspiring other photographers! Thank you so much! I feel so lucky and honour to have the opportunity to work you with and be at your workshop! Thank you, thank you!”
